DESCRIPTION:Free workshop is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Church by the Sea\, at 1045 95th St.\, on Bay Harbor Islands. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Reservation is required for free childcare. \n________________ \nThis FREE\, 1-day seminar is designed for anyone who has been affected by the Surfside Tragedy to learn about how to heal from trauma and experience a start to healing. \nThe event will include: \n\n\nTwo teaching components for all attendees (in the morning): \n\n\nWhat is Trauma? – educates participants on the dynamics of trauma\, the normal responses to trauma\, the effects and ramifications of unresolved trauma (such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). \n\n\nHow to Recover from Trauma  – provides an overview of recovery\, resources and suggestions for the path to healing. \n\n\n\n\nOne therapeutic processing activity \n\n\nSeveral group discussions and activities to interact with the content \n\n\nPersonal assessments for PTSD (ITQ) and Compassion Fatigue/Satisfaction (Pro-QOL) \n\n\nHandouts and a resource list \n\n\nTwo teaching components (2:30-4pm) for those involved with supporting the Surfside community who have been affected by the tragedy. This includes pastors\, business leaders\, teachers\, parents\, first-responders\, social service providers and more.: \n\n\nCaring for the Traumatized – addresses how to recognize and manage trauma symptoms in others. \n\n\nSelf-care for the Caregiver – addresses vicarious trauma\, compassion fatigue\, and self-care remedies. \n\n\n\n\nNote: This is primarily an educational seminar\, not a therapy experience. Nevertheless\, taking personal assessments\, gaining a better understanding of trauma\, participating in small group discussions to apply the information to recent events\, and the therapeutic activities demonstrated are intended to be personally helpful to attendees as well as informational. \n.
